Are you too proud to ask for directions if you get lost?

I'm pretty good with directions, so I rarely get lost, but, on the occasions that I do, I'm not to proud to ask someone for help.

A former employer once told me, "Asking for help shows that you care." I think that is a pretty good way of looking at things. I care about wasting time, wasting gas, and keeping people waiting and/or otherwise inconveniencing them. So yeah, I ask for directions if I get too lost. I also ask where to find things in a store if I'm unfamiliar with the layout.

Yeah, I will ask for directions if I get turned around. But in this age of Internet directions, it is silly for someone to head out to an unfamiliar area and not know what to do.

In a world with that sweet GPS voice mapping out your route and telling you which way to turn in 300 feet, who gets lost?

Even low tech, I usually planned my route on a map so I knew where I was going.

I'll ask if I get lost but I prefer to figure it out on a road map and address number if possible. Have you ever noticed that when someone gives you directions, they invariably leave out one critical detail? They always end the conversation with "you can't miss it", but I do. frustrated

AMEN to GPS! I have traveled across the USA from FL to ID several times and have never gotten lost once. When my GPS says turn in 70 feet or turn now, I listen. I will however ask where something is located in a store if I can't find it.

Personally, I see no reason to own a GPS. I rarely drive more than an hour away from home, in which case a street map or Google Maps works fine. If I drove long distances for a living or traveled for work, I'd feel differently. My days of moving to a new state every 2-3 years are over, so I'm not wasting money on an unnecessary gadget.

I'm not at all shy about asking for directions, especially if I'm lost. I'll ask complete strangers for help and they usually are happy to assist.

Nope. However, very rarely will I even ask for directions. My sense of direction is pristine. I can look at a map of any city for about 15 mins, then get anywhere that I need to.

I have a nav system in my car so this usually isn't an issue for me.

That is an excellent quality to have. I sure wish I had a better sense of directions.

Living in NYC, you pick it up quick. At least you should. I still know some folks here who would get lost in their own neighborhoods.
