She is into the ABC soaps and her OWN channel is struggling. I think it would be a good idea if she took over OLTL, what do you think, it could boost her own channels ratings?

It would definitely bring in an audience that she doesn't have; but I don't know if OWN has the budget to produce a daily soap. It would probably be like when Passions went to DirecTV. I think it was cut in time length and only aired every other day, before it was ultimately cancelled for good. What I would love to see, though, is Oprah do an episode about the dying soap genre on her daytime talk show while it's still on the air. Maybe *that* would raise awareness and put Frons and all of the other network executives who're callous about the validity of soaps, and are trying to kill them off, in the hot seat.

I wouldn't bet money on Miss O taking on these shows. She's got her own agenda with OWN,although I don't see what the big deal is so far.I can watch re-runs of old movies almost anywhere else, but maybe I'm missing something?

I agree! The OWN channel needs some help. When she cancelled Discovery Health to produce the OWN, she took away a lot of good shows. Perhaps, the O' could get some decent writers though. Can't do any worse!

Discovery Heath Channel is back as Discovery Fitness Channel, all the shows from DHC are on there.

I doubt she would, but it would be nice and she'd gain a lot of viewers if she did but ITA that she has her own agenda.

I have heard several make this suggestion, that Oprah should pick up these shows and put them on her network. How realistic that is I don't know because ABC owns these shows. Would they be willing to sell them off to another network?

I didn't believe Oprah could save the soaps, but I wish she hadn't compared the situation to when Mary Tyler Moore, a sitcom, went off the air. Again, I would be content if she did an episode of her talk show talking about the dying soap genre; bringing to everyone's attention that there could still be life in it, but that the networks are willfully letting it die.
