Most all of you either didn't live through or can't remember the time when the U.S. and Soviet Union were trying to stare each other down waiting for the other to blink. A glitch in the system sends American bombers to nuke the Ruskies and President while Henry Fonda tries desperately to stop WWIII. He comes up with quite a solution.

Columbia Pictures produced this film and Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove" in the same year but word is Kubrick wanted his released first. This had a negative affect on Fail-Safe because of the comedic nature of the former.

I remember the movie and it seemed so plausible at the time. I also was a participant in the times, monitoring Russky radio com in the AF (Far East Missile Command actually).

We were all so paranoid that us or them was going to do a pre-emptive.

I don't remember having to do the duck and cover drills in school where the kids got under their desks. As if that little bit of wood and metal was going to sheild us from an atomic blast.

We all watched this movie for a class when my brother was in college...I remember falling asleep through most of it and waking up just in time for the big ending. My mother was...unnerved to say the least, my dad said he remebered seeing it as a kid, though he was 16 when it came out. It's on now but I missed it again, I always mean to see it and see what I missed the first time.
