McTeague by Frank Norris

The novel which was turned into the 1924 4 hour film Greed, which was originally made as being 10 hours long but all extra footage has since become lost. Has anybody read this book? I found it at the library and just started reading it, and it's funny because until I looked up the film I had never heard of it, but apparently it's made some kind of a name for itself in the history that it's been in print, 112 years or around that.
