| Has anyone not heard about this yet? I've been following the story and this is part of the latest article I've read - Quote :
- The 32-year-old Norwegian man suspected of Norway's shooting and bomb massacre calls his deeds "atrocious" yet "necessary" and will explain in court, his lawyer said Sunday.
Anders Behring Breivik was arrested after Friday's massacre of 85 people — mostly teens — on a tiny forested holiday island that was hosting a summer camp for the youth wing of Norway's ruling Labor party. Breivik was also charged in the bombing of Oslo's government district, which killed seven people hours earlier.
"He has said that he believed the actions were atrocious, but that in his head they were necessary," defense lawyer Geir Lippestad told TV2 news.
Lippestad said his client was willing to explain himself in a court hearing on Monday. The court will decide at the hearing whether to keep the suspect in detention pending his trial.
If convicted on the terrorism charges, he would face a maximum of 21 years in jail, police said. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43857267/ns/world_news-europe/t/norway-massacre-suspect-calls-deeds-necessary-lawyer-says/?GT1=4300121 years max and maybe they'll keep him locked up? I'm baffled.

| He killed almost 100 people. Not even allegedly. He said he did it. 21 years makes no sense. There's no justice in that. | |

| And this time it can't be blamed on America's joke of a legal system, that's what I think is going to be the biggest shocker for a lot of people.
Necessary eh? I'm sure we'd all just LOVE to hear why he HAD to kill 92 people. What's everybody thinking, insanity or is it Manchurian Candidate or what?

I agree, but it is what the Norwegians want, a super liberal nation where there are no real consequences to heinous crimes like this. Well, somehow that is the laws they have passed. I suspect that gate will now be closed.
Hell, maybe some social scientist will get the Nobel prize for proving that locking murdering sociopaths up for life prevents them killing hundreds of more children. DUH!
It is one thing to get rid of capital punishment, quite another not to lock such an animal in a cage until he dies. IDK what they were thinking. I know their history is one of atrocities but other nation occupied by Nazi's still have sane consequences for murder.

| I think the article is misleading. The TERRORISM charges carry a max of 21 years. I would hope any sensible prosecutor would charge him for 100 murders and hopefully first-degree murder carries a stiffer penalty.
I was following this. It kind of scares me cause it shows me that the stuff that happens in my books can definitely happen in real life. It's really scary to think how deranged some people are.

At another site people who live there say they don't. They also said the 21 year max sentence won't be stacked or apply to each charge. According to them the 21 years is the total max sentence, period. They also said he would probably be parole eligible within 14.

What the fuck were they thinking when they put a limit on locking up pschopathic terrorists forever? I hope some vigilante serving his 21 years for killing someone gives this guy a shiv for murdering children.
