And this time I'm amending my statement that the mothers AND the instructors that teach the girls what to do should be drug out into the street and shot.


Last night my mother was watching something about that on Lifetime and there's a 300 pound Jabba the Hut dance instructor telling a bunch of skinny 5 year old girls they need to get on the floor and do 100 situps or their abs are going to be painted on, which they were eventually. If that ain't the BIG FAAAAAAAT pot calling the kettle black; they could liposuck this bitch and sell her as whale blubber, why ain't SHE doing 100 situps so she don't fall through the stage when she goes on? And the mothers were outside talking amongst themselves acting like they didn't like what she had to say to their kids, but do you think any of them told the bitch off and pulled their kids out? Nooooooo, same as usual, their childhoods and innocents have to be sacrificed because their mommies want them to win.

I don't think they need to be outlawed, but it should be all about the girls desire to compete. Not about parents or talent coordinators. I also wouldn't be against having trained psychiatrists on hand to regularly evaluate contestants to see where their heads and hearts are at, as far as the process goes.

I don't think that outlawing things is necessarily the best approach. I think the pageants are silly & archaic. They can promote ridiculous stereotypes about females but at the same time the problem with them is usually with the parents. Some of the mothers are living their lives vicariously through their daughters. Significant changes need to be made. It might be a good idea to let these girls compete as they are. Take away the silly hair, obscene amount of makeup, the hooker clothes & get the sexualization completely out of it. Let little girls be little girls. And create & enforce rules to make these stage moms behave.

Or better yet, since it's really all about the mother's 15 minutes of fame, let them compete, make it something interesting like a shark wrestling competition or something, then they'd have a LOT of attention on them which is the only reason they torture their daughters with pageants.

The only thing in your theory that needs to be outlawed is dragging people out in the street and shooting them. Fortunately it already is.

Im always a bit concerned about shows like Toddlers and Tiaras. If it's that extreme, I wouldn't mess with it. Even if it's not to that extremity, it just doesn't seem natural. Let the kid be a kid for a while--trying to kick everyone's ass at everything is a taxing enough feat as an adult!

Besides, I almost feel a bit child-molestatious when I stumble across that show (I use that word a lot but I'm not sure it's real....).

When Jon Benet got killed I read and watched a lot about the pageants. I agree that they should be desexualized. It is disgusting to watch a 5yr old strut around on stage half naked with a ton of makeup--- looking like a 25yr old.

And that's another thing, all the mothers were standing together going 'I don't know about when all these men see them dressed like that', BUT do they do anything about it? NO, once again it's 5 year olds in short leotards with full out backs and little bikinis and got them doing Rubber Woman bends and spreads. It's really not much better than if they were actually pimping out their daughters.

I don't think they should be outlawed per se, but I also don't think they have as much cultural relevance today as they used to. From what I can tell, the majority of the public seems to have either a negative or disinterested attitude when it comes to beauty pageants – particularly when it comes to those centered around little girls. They seem plain outdated. It's more the 'establishment' that's keeping them going than public fascination.

I'm not going to go so far as to say that it should be "illegal" or that people "should be shot" for doing it, but I will say that I think it's very wrong and I harshly judge any parents that would allow their children to be put in something like this. Ultimately, I think it does more harm than good for the average child, I think it's a 'risky' business (as far as the perversion factor goes), and I think it's a very superficial, irresponsible thing for parents to do (which cators mostly to their own interests and not the child's). Frankly, I find it disgusting and equate it to prostitution of your own child for money!

It's funny, a lot of people here seem to have taken my suggestion about 'drug out into the street and shot' as a literal one. To me that is as common a figure of speech as 'go fly a kite' or 'go jump in the lake'. Though I do believe some of these mothers and other people involved should be horse whipped.

Go for it. What are you doing about something that you feel so strongly against that you think it should be made illegal besides complaining?
