About once or twice a year they shut off the water to flush out the hydrants on the corners. Well Tuesday they shut it off at 6:30 in the morning because a water main burst, and today they've shut it off again, and like Tuesday, with no idea when it'll be on again. It's a good thing we've got a well to get water from for the toilets or we'd have a problem.

I don't think our water gets shut off like that... Never heard of that.

We might really be in for it today because now TWO water mains are broken, on Tuesday when it was only 1 water main the water was off for 3 hours.

i lived in the same neighborhood for 30yrs and don't remember our water ever being shut off for plug flushing. I do remember that sometimes it would rain so badly that the creek in the back of the house would flood and the storm drains in the street would back up. Some how that would cause water pipe problems. The flood got so bad once that i actually rowed a boat from my house down the street to my mom's and picked her up to take her back to my house! The water was that deep!

Holy crap, that IS deep. We live on a hill so we don't have that problem, and I hope we never do.

My water has never been shut off either. There was one time however when there was a contaminated water alert, and so we couldn't drink it for 24 hrs.

They never shut our water off to do that. On the rare times we have lost water it was because a water main broke.

When I moved to this suburb this water was terrible. Couldn't even stand to drink it. A huge project was in the works where they were going to start piping it in from the city. During that whole process, we did have water shut off a couple times.

Only when the plumbing is being worked on has my water been shut off.
