They are functional. When I had shoulder length hair, I tied it back to keep it out of the way, which I thot was the purpose of ponytails.

Not every guy can pull the long hair and ponytail look off. It really looks silly and unflattering on the ones who can't.

normally i dont mind them, to each his own---but today i was watching Y&R and Daniel was wearing a ponytail that made him look like an anorexic Samaria warrior lol
