| Do you believe in the divinity of the Bible, as the "word of God?" Or do you see it as merely a book of opinions and propaganda from the men who penned in all those centuries ago?
I see it as the latter. | |

| It's definitely the latter. Jesus was a MAN. A man in the same flesh as any other man with a penis. King James took what he wanted out of the Old Testament, added some new shit and dubbed it the New Testament. And that's supposed to be the divine word of God that these Jesus freaks so blindly follows. I mean, you can follow it but I would hope you'd know the difference. | |

| I don't believe in the 'divinity' of The Bible at all, rather a book of stories to draw inspiration and faith from when and where you can. Christians, particularly Baptists, tend to believe that every word of it is a hallowed reflection of God's law. I totally disagree. | |

| I think the Bible is a 100% theatrical work of fiction by the men who wanted to steer a then naive society into following their politics. It's also been the single most damaging thing that's EVERY been published. IMHO it should be treated like a pornographic book (banned to everyone under 18). | |

| Like Chris said, the Bible can be used as a tool to draw inspiration and enlightenment from, but shouldn't be taken in from a literal, or absolute, standpoint. The Almighty didn't pen or bless it. All the it is is a book of stories. Period. | |

I see it as the latter. Well I'm quite familiar with the bible at this point in my life and if indeed it was merely a book of opinions and propaganda, then it is very poorly written indeed as it would seem to have the opposite of the intended effect on people. The messages about love, peace, and tolorance don't do much in the way of propaganda for evil men. As far as salvation goes, that could only be used as propaganda if you were a "selling" Jesus in order to make your church powerful and establish a political following. Many people do this of course (the Roman Catholic Church being the largest example), but that also depends on relying on the ignorance of the laymen. Anyone who actually reads and understands the messages in the bible would immediately recognize that corruption and reject it. To answer the question, I think the bible (the original Hebrew and Greek texts) are the "inspired" words of God passed down from generation to generation and recorded through oral tradition. I think it's devine in the sense that I believe in God and his ability to keep his word. But I also believe that it is flawed because our modern English translations have removed, added, and distorted scripture and because it ultimately each person may intepret same scriptures differently. | |
