| http://abcnews.go.com/Health/couple-stops-eating-drinking-end-life-son-launches/story?id=14327416This is a slightly long article, so I'll just give a synopsis: A retirement home-bound elderly couple (both suffering from debilitating illness, which makes their day to day living almost impossible) decided that they were going to stop eating so that they would die. They told staff at their assisted living facility about their plans to fast to death, prompting administrators to call 911 and let the dispatchers know of two attempted suicides. The nursing home then evicted the couple, who moved into a private home and continued their fast, dying ten days later. Sad story. What's your opinion? Was the home right to evict this couple for their stance, or should they have respected their wishes and allowed them to perish? | |

| The home is not obligated to house their suicide attempt. | |

| I don't know....I'm for assisted suicide of the terminally ill, but at the same time, this wasn't a hospital with doctors....it was a old folks home. I don't think this facility was morally obligated to oblige their residents in starving themselves to death. | |

| If it truly was their wish to die then the home probably did them a favor by evicting them instead of getting a court order to shove feeding tubes down their throats. What about the home's liability if they let them die? | |

| Yep. They're not doctors and if they didn't want to take on that responsibility, then they shouldn't have to. Matter fact, they couldn't do it even if they wanted to. | |

| Agreed. In this case, you can't really fault the facility. | |

| I feel bad that the only way they could aleve their suffering was to starve themselves to death. They should have been able to receive a physician assisted suicide because that is clearly what they wanted and had a right to. | |
