When you were a kid, did your parents let you watch movies with blood & gore or try and keep you away from it? If you have kids, when they were younger did you permit horror films?

When I was that age the movies were no where near as graphic as they are today. Or even 20-30 years ago but it's been much longer than that since I was a kid. But yes, I was able to watch the scary movies of my day.

My mom talked a game about not wanting me to see them but i did. When ur the oldest of 5 kids in the house you get to do some things cause ur the oldest or cause the younger kids are more pressing. Got to watch just about everything i wanted to see.

Yea, I was pretty much allowed to watch anything I wanted except for sex scenes, and of course porn.

When I was a kid, horror movies starred Lon Chaney Jr., Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.
If there was any blood or gore at all it was in black & white.
Of course I could watch it on TV.

The only horror movies we saw were the ones we had which were 3 from 1958/59, The Bat with Vincent Price, House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price and The Blob with Steve McQueen.

when i was a kid, Freddy, Jason, and Mike Myers were the biggies. My mom took us to see them in the movies but gave us the lecture "movies arent real". When my nephews were young, one had a weak stomach so I bought him the Univeral Monsters collections with Mummy, Wolfman, Dracula etc. The other wanted to see Freddie---so we let him watch. Depends on the kid i guess.

I don't remember it ever being a problem. My dad was pretty apathetic to things like that. My mom wasn't a fan and probably didn't want me to see them, but she didn't go out of her way to say 'no.'
Far as my daughter is concerned, she's not that big on horror films, so it hasn't been an issue.

My folks didn't care about things like that. If I wanted to, I could.

When I was a small child in the 70's, most of the "horror" films (save movies like The Exorcist) then were more psychological thrillers with a unbalanced woodsman coming after you, or animal terror. Even movies like Carrie played more on suspense and shock than the grotesque. It wasn't until I was a teenager in the 80s' when horror become ravaged by supernatural slashers and disgusting blood, gore and mutilation, and by then I was old enough to decide if I wanted to see it.

Yes and no. They never took me to see any horror films and when we'd rent from the video store, it usually wasn't horror...but I wasn't on explicit restriction from scary movies. THEY (my mom and dad) weren't into them and so they didn't choose to indulge us with it.
