What else can happen here, heavy rain and Floods, Blizzards, Noreaster's, Hurricanes and now earthquakes. Would you consider moving to the east coast now? California sounds a lot safer to me.

What's a Noreaster?
And didn't California get a big earthquake a few months back?

Re: East Coast Earthquake [merged]
A nor'easter (also northeaster; see below) is a type of macro-scale storm along the East Coast of the United States and Atlantic Canada, so named because the storm travels to the northeast from the south and the winds come from the northeast, especially in the coastal areas of the Northeastern United States and Atlantic Canada. More specifically, it describes a low pressure area whose center of rotation is just off the East Coast and whose leading winds in the left forward quadrant rotate onto land from the northeast. The precipitation pattern is similar to other extratropical storms. Nor'easters also can cause coastal flooding, coastal erosion, hurricane force winds, and heavy snow. Nor'easters can occur at any time of the year but are mostly known for their presence in the winter season.[1] Nor'easters can be devastating and damaging, especially in the winter months, when most damage and deaths are cold related, as nor'easters are known for bringing extremely cold air down from the Arctic air mass. Nor'easters thrive on the converging air masses; that is, the polar cold air mass and the warmer ocean water of the Gulf Stream.

Re: East Coast Earthquake [merged]
Virginia earthquake felt in West Michigan
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A District of Columbia fire department spokesman says there are numerous injuries as a result of an earthquake that struck near the nation's capital, but so far there are no reports of serious injuries or deaths.
DC Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer says numerous buildings have been damaged, including the Ecuadorian embassy and a handful of schools.
He says thousands of people are milling about downtown after evacuating their buildings. He says that if a building has not sustained structural damage, the safest thing to do is to shelter in place. Union Station was also evacuated, and officials told the crowd outside that some plaster is down inside.
Piringer says all city fire trucks and ambulances have been deployed. Those that aren't responding to calls are driving around and looking for structural damage, injured people and other emergencies.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Park Service says all memorials and monuments on the National Mall have been evacuated and closed after an earthquake struck the nation's capital.
The 5.8-magnitude earthquake was centered near Richmond, Va., and could be felt along much of the East Coast. Buildings shook in downtown Washington.
National Park Service spokesman Bill Line says the memorials and monuments, including the new Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, were evacuated immediately after the quake. He says he's not aware of any injuries to visitors or Park Service staff or damage to Park Service properties.
Line says NPS employees are being sent home early.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Federal officials say two nuclear reactors at the North Anna Power Station in Louisa County, Va., were automatically taken off line by safety systems around the time of the earthquake.
The Dominion-operated power plant is being run off of four emergency diesel generators, which are supplying power for critical safety equipment.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman Roger Hannah says the agency was not immediately aware of any damage at nuclear power plants in the southeast.
NRC officials are still assessing the situation.
Louisa County is about 40 miles northwest of Richmond.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM & AP)- An earthquake that struck Virginia was felt all the way in West Michigan.
The 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit near Mineral, VA just before 2 p.m. Tuesday. Shortly after, several viewers contacted our Information Center, saying their buildings shook.
The Pentagon was evacuated after the earthquake hit. So far, it's unclear if there were any damage or injuries caused by the earthquake.
ABC News is updating the story on-air this afternoon.

Re: East Coast Earthquake [merged]
The epicenter wasn't too far from me. Yes, we bugged the fuck out here in Richmond. Thank God for all those shows based in California or I wouldn't have known what to do! I don't even know what happened in Libya because the news is all earthquake coverage, making sure people are okay and whatnot. And for the most part, everyone is, just a few traumatized youngsters.
My boo in Cali snickered when I told him LOL. We ain't have a CLUE what to do here!

Re: East Coast Earthquake [merged]
The last quake I felt in NJ was in 1984 --- i was in 4th grade. Today shook our surroundings quite a bit...
BUT stupidvisors at that postal service had NO clue what to do-- instead of pulling the evacuation fire alarm and allowing us out the emergency exits, they ran out their supervisors doors and left the employees in the building!! Running the machines that were literally shaking and getting damaged! stupid people
