I'm back after an all day power outage Sat/Sun.

Bad storm here yesterday; my power had been out since around eight pm Saturday night. The lights only just flickered back on about twenty minutes ago.

It's been a miserable last twenty four hours. What made it worse was that–with no fans/air–it was hot. I couldn't sleep last night because of it. I called the electric company, and originally they projected that we would be without power until Monday evening, between nine and eleven at night; and I'm thinking wonderful - forty-eight hours with no electricity. That would have lasted longer than the '03 blackout. All my food would have been spoiled (and some of it did anyway. Bye milk and cheese.)

I went to visit my fiancee today, and almost stayed overnight, but for some reason I opted to come back home to wander around in the dark. I fell asleep around eight pm, and when I awoke the power was finally back on. I felt like high-fiving someone.

Yeah, power outages suck. But, if you're with someone....they can be fun!

Aw man that sucks Chris. Did you lose any food? How many times did you walk into a room and automatically flick the light switch? Most happy you're back on The Grid!

Yeah, Uncle Al, I had to throw out my milk (of course.) I also had left over spaghetti with smothered cheese that I had to get rid of. Had a frozen pizza in my freezer that I hope is still good. I just returned from grocery shopping to replace several of the items that went bad.

That sucks man and you really hate leaving your house even though you have no elec. for some reason you just want to be there. I am glad your power is back on brother and that you are comfortable once again, hate having my brother uncomfortable.

On a brighter note we are supposed to have rain for the whole week here so I guess more flooding and miserable times ahead.

That's exactly it. I could have spent the night over my parents or fiancee's, but for some reason I felt compelled to wait it out in the dark and in the heat until the power came back on. Luckily for me, I had flashlights and candles on hand. One good thing came out of it though, I got to do some reading. I've had this book for about three years that I never made it past page ten of. Saturday night, I grabbed a flashlight and knocked out about fifty pages of it.

And yes, Alan, I did repeating walk into rooms absentmindedly flicking on the light switch, and sort of rolling my eyes at myself a second later.

We lose the electric here so often so I make sure I have fresh batteries all the time and I have a couple of battery powered lanterns that make the rooms come to life with light. I don't particularly like using candles but I will if I have to.

Lanterns is a good idea. I actually never thought of that. In my basement, I have about twenty round and square candles. I lit about five of them and just laid around doing nothing. It was almost too hot to pray…almost.

Praying by candlelight lets the imagination wander. Those flickering lights, those shadows on the wall, puts you in a very peaceful mood. Hey and you can even play shadow puppet on the walls

By candlelight, it would be more like shadow snakes.

You can always do a V with your fingers up on top and it will look like a little alien snake or a very long snail.
