After someone is of legal age, do you think families should still be controlling/dictating their personal lives? Take for instance, some families demand that a child live at home until the time he, or she, marries. Arranged marriages. Expectations of going into the family business. That sort of thing. I remember back in college, I had a friend who was twenty years old, still living at home, and was grounded for some reason. He couldn't use the phone. That baffled me.

uuuhhhh parent's house parent's rules, dont like it then leave. At 24 my sis went to the casino with her bf of 9 years and called my mom at midnight saying they ran into his parents and were going to breakfast with them. She said she'd be home by 8am. They got home at 5am and my mom beat her saying "No daughter of mine stays out all night like a whore". THAT was way over the top.

My sis however insists that her kids call and give a time, then waits up for them to make sure they get home safely. They get to go where they want, as long as they pay their cell phone bills, gas, and car insurance. No pay, no getting those privileges. They are 20 - 24

I left home 3 days after graduating HS. Had a job lined up with the US Air Force. They controlled my life for the next four years, but they paid me. When I got out at 22, I was completely on my own. Could not countenance living under someone elses rules as an adult.

That baffles the hell out of me too.

To answer the question though: no.

Get financial control over your own life and you won't have to live under your parents' thumb.

As long as they are under their parents' roof, yes, unless they are paing rent and living independant of their parents, other than sharing a roof.
