Do you think landlords should be able to evict their tenants if they're ever arrested?

My parents are landlords and we do enforce this to any renters, that if the cops come, they're out, and so far we haven't had any trouble with anybody; they don't get in trouble with the law and they're not a nuisance to people in the vicinity and they leave the house more or less as clean as it was when they moved in. On the other hand, we know another woman who rents out houses and she does not have this rule and the tenants she gets are nothing but trouble who eventually tear up the house and in the meantime make trouble for all their neighbors and on occasion ARE arrested.

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with landlords having such a policy; now yes I can understand if it was a misunderstanding or somebody goofed and got the wrong name or address, but if they come for the tenants for something they DID do, I think the landlord should have the right to order them out.

I think it should depend on what the arrest was for. If it was a criminal offense, and it threatens the safety or integrity of the overall environment; then an eviction is reasonable. If it is over something pettier, then it should be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Just an arrest? Absolutely not. There's a difference between an arrest & a conviction. Even then it should depend on what it was for. Innocent people get arrested too. And there are people who've never been arrested who destroy property as well. This situation should have the same answer as a lot of things in life, "it depends".

A no cops clause is ridiculous. The only clause a landlord should care about is date that the rent is due. Make repairs to your property in a timely fashion should something break and that's pretty much it.

Innocent people are wrongly arrested for any number of reasons.

If the tenant is a criminal or habitual law breaker, then fine...but I wouldn't say it should be a rule that if they're arrested they should be automatically evicted.
