I am good with repairing tears, but never did a button. I need to learn.

Do you do your own basic sewing jobs like buttons and repairing small tears?

Yeah I can do the simple stuff. Don't have the patience for fixing a long seam.

I can do buttons but anything else I have to have my mother do because I haven't learned it yet.

Once and only once (over a decade ago, probably nearly 2 decades ago) I put the needle with the thread and managed to sow up a tear. I did it only that one time and didn't really know what I was doing, but somehow managed to get it sowed.

I can do a button if I have to. Otherwise it's "Debby!"

I used to work in a fabric store during college, and I was one of the ones that would make the sample garments that would be displayed in the store, so people could see what the fabric looked like, made into something.
I used to do a lot of machine-quilting, and I'm the Chorus Mom down at the High School--I hem all the gowns and tuxedoes that the students wear for their performances. LOL
Here's a photo of a curtain I recently made for my Grandmother--I'm in the process of painting her walls right now, so I'll have to take it down, next time I go back, which is Thursday this week, to do more painting:

I can sew repairs to garments and put a buttons on. I have even designed and made several robes back in the '70s & '80s.
I wore my Japanese style robe modeling for an art class.
Made matching robes for me and my wife back when Shogun was playing on TV

Hy, you are very talented! I sure wish I could make things. I hope to learn how to make Barbie clothes for my God Daughter when she is older.

I can't do buttons either, but I can close tears and add patches.

It was a simple 'T' design, so I would have less sewing. Found a different color cloth to use as trim and a belt. Here is one of my pics I made of my costumes for modeling.

I'm no seamstress or designer, I can't do any kind of elaborate designs, sew anything from scratch or fix anything that's been TOO shredded, but I can sow back on a button, or close up a tear.

Thanks! I remember learning to sew on a machine by putting a piece of lined paper through it--if you can keep the needle on the line, you're doing fine! (Of course my old bat of a home-ec teacher in junior high kept a bottle of scotch in her desk drawer, so she was lucky to be able to sew a straight line, herself! Anything beyond sewing sheets of paper, I taught myself, since ol' Lillian was half in the bag during class!)
