Re: Hotel stays
I don't have any favorite or choice hotels. When I go somewhere I try to pin down the best value, Period.
I'm one of those weird people who much prefers a motel over someone's house. I don't like to stay overnight in people's houses, not even family.

Re: Hotel stays
I always look for the cheapest one within walking distance of the bus or train station.
I've stayed in 4 hotels in Wash. DC all in different parts of town so for a day I got a feel for that part of DC and did my walking trips from there.
I've gone thru New Orleans 3 different times and ended up in hotels in different parts of town, all easy to get to Union Station.
Two different stays in Chicago, both downtown in cheap hotels that were comfortable, even the 1874 vintage on Lakeshore Drive across from Grant Park.
I am not a picky traveler. If it is A/C, quiet and has a hot shower or even a tub to soak in and a little coffee maker for my first two cups in the morning then I am quite happy.

Re: Hotel stays
I don't stay at hotels a lot but when I do I usually look for something a bit upscale so I can spoil myself a bit. I am a big fan of the Hyatt. Emabassey Suites are not bad.
I have stayed at:

I'm the same way. I don't know about MOTELS per se....but I'd rather stay in a hotel instead of at somebody's house, no matter how close we are.

Re: Hotel stays
Don't really have a favorite. I'll stay wherever it's nice, clean and comfortable and reasonable priced. Although, there was a stretch where it seemed like every hotel that I got a room in was the Hilton. But...it's really not like I prefer it over something else.

Re: Hotel stays
As long as it's clean and reasonably priced. And I have no problem being someone's house guest for a few days for the most part.

Yep.
I do like saying at (good) hotels, but I don't really have a favorite.

If I ever went to a hotel, or a motel, *I* would be thinking about dead bodies in/under the bed. I would never stay in a room without checking for that first. I would want to see the bed unmade and remade before I EVER sat on it.

Re: Hotel stays
Love staying in hotels. I can stay in one 5 minutes from my house and still feel like I'm on vacation. I had to stay in them a lot years ago when my ex was "homeless" (A.K.A his credit was too bad to get a real apartment). Fell in love with Howard Johnson and the Hilton, when we could afford it.
The one chain I absolutely cannot stand is Travelodge. UGH. You would think with that cute ass bear as their mascot, it would be a bit more decent. And they have the nerve to call this a hotel...
