Have you ever had a dobie or a rott as a pet? If so, in your opinion, do they deserve the reputation they have? If not, would you ever consider it?

Not my kind of dogs. My brother has a rottweiler and a pit bull so I visit with him very infrequently.

My ex-BF had/has a Rottweiler and he was very affectionate and silly. But he was also trained well from an early age.

Eh, I'm no dog person. Never had one as a pet, and wouldn't.

I haven't owned either one, but I love them both. My friend hat a Rot, he was a big goofy playful baby. He just slobbered too much.

I've had numerous dogs over the years but I wouldn't have any attack dog breed.

Neither is my preferred breed, but I wouldn't mind having either. If properly disciplined, trained, and shown affection from infancy, Dobermans and Rotts will be as loyal and loving towards their owners as most other domestic breeds. They just won't be that way with outsiders. A dog thief can manipulate a Golden Retriever into coming with him....they can't do that with a Doberman.

A friend of mine and her husband have a Rottweiler that is the same way and he was also trained well from an early age. I have heard about other Rottweilers being the same way if they are trained well.

A friend of mine has the cutest Rott-Collie mix. He probably takes more after his Collie side because he's very people friendly and loves attention. But he's also very smart and keenly aware. He will be playing, then at the drop of a dime his demeanor becomes really serious because he heard some slight noise coming from somewhere. IMO that's the perfect dog. The playfulness of a Collie and the alpha street smarts of a Rott.
