Oh, no....isn't that the worst...being on the phone with C.S.? I had to buy a new computer and considered a Dell. I ended up with an HP. It was cheaper and hopefully won't disappoint. I hope you get your issue resolved soon.

The worse is when you're on hold for ten minutes, and then all of the sudden you hear these strange 'clicks,' followed by a dial tone.

What's going on with your computer Tony?

I called because I got a message on my computer that my McCafee Security center subscription was up next week. I paid for 3 years, I have the computer for one year. I am on hold for half hour and I get India. I am annoyed because I payed extra to have english speaking tech support. So I deal with India, can't understand them but we managed to get out that i have to call McCaffee. I call McCaffee and its India. I can't understand him, he can't understand me but after 45 minutes the solution was he wanted me to uninstall my virus software and re-install it. I blew off the handle and started screaming at him telling him that I am not going to do this, I should not have to do this and he said thats all he could do for me. I hung up on him, called Dell order department where I ordered the computer from so I would not be on hold for an hour. I get an english speaking guy, tell him I am annoyed I had to go through India when I paid for english speaking tech. To make a long story short, he said Ill connect you to Software support. I get software support and guess what???? INDIA!!!!!!!! This guy spoke better english and I explained the problem that I got a message I had to renew my license by next week. He put me on hold then came back and said that he would connect me to a specialist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I get the specialist and explain the problem again (the specialist was Canadian, english speaking at least). He told me that it was probably just a message from McAfee offering a deal on renewing subscriptions and that he had another similar call yesterday. So all of this for over 2 hours and its just a promotion that came up from my security center??? At least he gave me phone numbers to contact english speaking people if anything goes wrong next week when the one year is up. Man am I fired up now!

I had and HP DVD burner on my old computer and when I called tech support once for it, I got a kid that sounded like he was 14 years old and he could not help me with my problem. I disconnected it from my computer and threw it out.

Last year I bought an HP all in one printer and it would not install properly on my new computer. I called HP tech support and after 4 hours on the phone with them, it still didn't work. He wanted me to download a software program from CNET and use that scanning software, I told him that I PAID FOR HP SOFTWARE AND THATS WHAT I WANT. Needless to say I brought the printer back to the store got a refund and got an Epson printer and have no problems with it.

Doesn't surprise me at all to hear that you were directed to a call center in India. At my job, I work in a call center, they are currently outsourcing (laying off) jobs to India. In the meantime, whenever I have issues with my own employee accounts (password login's, etc.) I have to call an 800 # that connects me with an Indian agent. Not to sound bigoted, or anything, but trying to deal with the broken English of some of these agents can be downright harrowing.

Harrowing! Its disgraceful!!! Americans should not have to be subjected to speaking to somone that does not speak the language correctly. I am not being a bigot towards anyone from out of the country its just the way it is, its impossible to understand these people.

Tony....I hope my experience with HP is better than yours! I have always had Epson printers and love them. FYI, if you ever have it come up with an error message that you can't resolve, Google it. It is so strange, but there are ways to reset an Epson printer that customer service won't tell you. Both times, I Googled the error message and printer make and model and got info to press a certain three buttons to reset it and it worked fine.
Your ordeal today is a nightmare. I despise CS that is routed to India. My last Internet provider (Earthlink) had that and it was almost always impossible to understand them.

Thanks for the advice, thank god for google it has helped me solve other computer related problems. I sincerely hope you never have to call them for anything and that if you do, your experience is a lot better than mine.

I'm sorry that you had to go through all of those changes and channels Tony. At least your PC is still protected though. On my old PC, my Norton virus protection expired and within a month my PC was savagely attacked by all sorts of malware. Got so bad that some sort of an automatic "dialer" was attached to my computer that made it randomly shut itself down. It was a nightmare. I went to this computer store and purchased some kind of virus protection disc and later discovered that I had had over 100 traces of malware on my computer (this came from back in the days of my illegally downloading music from Kaazaa). Thinking that I should get rid of all traces, I selected EVERYTHING and it wound up deleting a vital system file. As a result, my computer wouldn't boot up again. I had to take it to be serviced and everything on it had to be wiped clean. Lost all my personal files.

    That's my PC nightmare story.

Wow that is a nightmare, especially to lose all your personal files. I try to make it a habit to back up my files about every 2 months if necessary. I used to use Limewire and I can't tell you how many viruses I had gotten from there and my Norton Antivirus at the time could not kill the virus it would incubate them. I won't let the subscription run out, I have 2 more years to go with it, if it runs out next week I am going to literally explode on Dell.

Some of those viruses are flame-retardant. I have at least 3 "nuisance" viruses on my computer. When I run McAfee and Spy Sweeper, it doesn't help.
