I was hoping Shale had a review before I went to see it today.

Re: The Thing 2011
No, I'm not planning to see it. Already saw my main movie this weekend - Footloose. However, I may have inadvertently mentioned something about The Thing in that review.
"Some movie purists would like to dismiss this remake of the classic 1984 movie (Footloose) as some kind of sacrilege. While a lot of remakes are just money grabs by unimaginative studios and some, no matter how good they are like True Grit, ultimately are unnecessary, this one was very timely."
I saw the 1982 John Carpenter classic and from what I have heard this prequel is the same movie reformated. The thrill is gone and there apparently was no reason to make this movie - except to hype it and get ppl to buy tickets. As Rene Rodriguez of The Miami Herald suggested, I'll "stick with the genuine 1982 article and skip this elaborate act of mimicry."

Re: The Thing 2011
I saw The Thing yesterday it was o.k. special effects were very good and yes it was a prequel. They played the same music in the beginning and end as in the beginning and end of the 1981 version. You also get to see the actual spaceship the alien came to earth on. Whats interesting is that when the credits roll people start to leave but they cut to showing what you saw in the 1981 version the Norwegian camp with all the dead bodies. There is one person alive and another that flew in by helicopter. Thats when the dog runs out and they start chasing it by helicopter as it runs in the snow which if you remember was the opening of the 1981 version. I give it a B, I liked it.
