Does your state have one? How much? Is it for everything you buy or are certain things exempt like clothes and food? Jersey has been at 7% for a while now. We started at 3% under the lie that the money was to be dedicated to fund schools IIRC. There are a couple of "urban enterprise" zones (or there were) where the rate was lowered to 3%.

Re: Sales tax
Somewhere around 7.75% but I think it's less than that for food.

Re: Sales tax
We have it and I think it is 6.5 %.
If that seems low, consider how backward Florida is and how we skimp on education and other services.
What I never understood is the excuse they give for raising taxes. It is a percentage - it should stay the same. Prices go up, so do taxes, so it stays with inflation.

Re: Sales tax
Oregon has no sales tax. But property taxes are very high and that is what's relied on for too many things. There is always a push for sales taxes, but I will never vote in favor of it unless they get rid of state income taxes, or lower property taxes ~ something. And we all know that that wouldn't happen.
