    When you're shopping, do you trust the word of the sales people when they're explaining the benefits of an expensive product that they're trying to get you to buy?

    It's not that I disbelieve them...per se, but like AtownPeep says, they're just trying to earn commission. I have yet to encounter a sales person who endorsed the cheaper brand or model over the more expensive unit, even if the more expensive product wasn't as good or user friendly. That's why I prefer to not go into the store totally ignorant about what I'm considering to buy.

    haha, maybe I should clarify, I do LISTEN to them, I'm not rude, but I don't trust them to be looking out for my best interest when they try to sell me one brand over another. I do my own research as well.

    I'll listen but know they're trying to make a sale. I try to research ahead of time or get what they tell me in writing.

    Same for me, though there are some places I know not to trust, as the salespeople will outright lie to you. when I was purchasing my DVD player a few years ago, I was at Future Shop and the guy gave me his spiel about the model I was looking at, guaranteeing it was the latest model. I went to Sears and saw the same unit, only it was a little bit more. I asked about it and the guy told me it was the latest model. I had the Future Shop brochure with me and he looked at it and said the model the Future Shop guy was trying to sell was last year's model, not the newest. Future Shop works on commission and they really pressure you to buy their products, which has really turned me off. It's the last place I'd go. Other places I trust more, though.

    I normally go in, already having researched the product (if it is pricey0 and so they probably see I know enough that they can't totally snow me.

    This isn't a major purchase, but Sunday, my son and I were at the mall to find shoes. He tried on a 6.5 at one store and we went to a second store to see what they had in the brand and the sales guy told us that that company doesn't make a 6.5. I said, "He just tried on a 6.5 at Journeys." Then he said, "Uh, well, we don't carry them."
