| To what extent should we have obscenity laws?
And how, in your opinion, should they be defined.
For instance, if someone takes a leak in public, do you think this is worthy of an arrest/fine? | |

Whether it's a man whipping it out to pee on the Alamo (go Ozzie!) or a woman squatting down in a hoop skirt. If you're making the attempt to conceal yourself in the woods I think you should be able to expect some privacy but if you can find the back of an alley you should be able to find a public restroom. However, beyond a man exposing his penis for possible public display, I don't consider public urination to be obscene. Just lazy and gross (even if urine is sterile when it leaves the body.) Beyond that, like Justice Potter Stewart, I can't define obscenity "but I know it when I see it." | |

| Yes! Pissing in public should definitely be fined. Naked body parts aside, no one should have to SMELL it!
As for nudity, in Oregon it is legal to be naked anywhere. BUT ~ that changes the moment you touch yourself or do anything "lewd" or provocative. Then it's a crime. So, in other words, I could stand at a corner totally naked with a "Will work for food" sign and be in my rights. | |

| Obscenity laws, like most vice laws are outdated and because they are often vague, ripe for selective enforcement.
And, most are only a product of our puritanical legal system. Europe has very few of the laws that we have against body exposure - taking a leak when you have to is a natural function and they see it as that. (It only becomes an odor problem when you piss on pavement - piss on the grass or bushes and they will thank you)
We've managed to establish a legal nude beach here in South Florida (which, BTW has had none of the problems the moralists warned against and is very popular and financially good for the county.) But in some of the more backwater places in florida cops go out of their way to catch skinny dippers who were otherwise in a secluded area bothering no one and try to tag them with obscenity or sex offense.
So, see the inconsistency of obscenity laws? | |

| I have one vision of something that just grosses me out, and it's cities with large homeless populations. I don't think most of them would even want to go 'nekked', but I'm imagining all those drunks pissing on the streets 'cuz they know they could. I've seen it done here (Portland) and in San Francisco in the open, dirty tallywackers out in the open 'n' all. Not a pleasant picture. | |

| Peeing in public should definitely be a fine-able offense. I got no problem with obscenity laws....keeps the perverts from trying to be bold on the street. | |
