Rapper Heavy D died today at the age of 44. The performer, whose real name is Dwight Arrington Myers, was rushed to hospital this afternoon after collapsing at his Beverly Hills home, according to TMZ. The star, who enjoyed success during the Nineties with his group Heavy D & the Boyz, was pronounced dead at an LA medical centre at 1pm. Emergency services arrived at his home after a call was made to report an unconscious male, the website reports. Heavy D, famous for the hit track Now That We Found Love, is said to have been conscious when paramedics first arrived however he died soon after he was taken to hospital. The cause of death is unknown and police are investigating. He last tweeted 16 hours ago, telling his followers: 'BE INSPIRED!' Heavy D last performed at the BET Awards in October.

Was his music popular in the Top 40 pop charts? I was still listening to pop stations then and don't remember him. I like this song. He had a good voice. Now THAT kind of rapping, I enjoy.

He had a few top 40 hits, but most of his singles fared better on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts.

So sad he had to go so young. I remember being little and the older teenagers jammin to "We Got Our Own Thang" and "Nuttin But Love".
