I wrote an essay about the reason/s why children start smoking at a young age. It was part of my writing placement exam for school. This was two years ago.

Hard to say. Have to define 'essay' from 'journal entry' 'column' or other 'article.'
I write all the time, sometimes for Web posting, sometimes just to write about things happening in my life.
If these are considered 'essays' then I wrote one most recently.

Ok I remember now, when I was taking my GED test, I was giving a subject to write a short 2 page essay on. It was about doing something to raise money. So I wrote about giving this fundraiser.
