The UK is pondering legislation that could ban smoking in cars. What do you think of this? Would you consider this going too far?

No good can come from government being allowed to dictate what people can & cannot do within the confines of their own property. Cars now. Homes next. The list of permitted & banned activities will only get longer.

When I plan to travel with ppl whom I know smoke, I tell them beforehand that I can't tolerate smoke in the car. If they can't curtail their addiction long enuf for the trip then I make other plans. But I'm an adult and can be forthright about such things.
However, I think there should be a law against ppl, including parents from smoking in a car occupied by a child. It should be a no brainer not to ruin a kids lungs, but smokers are no brain kinda ppl. Hence, for the protection of the child there should be a law.
This comes from my personal experience as a child, remembering how I could barely breathe in the back seat as my dad puffed away on his cigs.

Smokers are becoming the next Jews, it's becoming illegal for them to be/go anywhere.

They can be or go anywhere, as long as they don't smoke. Don't make "smoker" sound like some race or ethnic to be discriminated against.
I happen to be a "nudist" who can go anywhere anyone else can go (as long as I wear clothes)

Not surprised. Been expecting it. Probably just an excuse for insurance companies to jack up their rates even higher than they do now. I think it's all crap.

I can't say I would be totally against such legislation. It's a distraction and terrible if kids in the car. Many litter out the cigarette butts.

Wish these anti-smoking lobbyists would quit beating around the bush with all of these petty propositions and laws, and just get on with what they REALLY wanna do....which is banning smoking altogether.

That's over the line. In a minute they're gonna be proposing people be unable to smoke in their own home.
