Spelling Christmas 'Xmas' Empty
PostSubject: Spelling Christmas 'Xmas'   Spelling Christmas 'Xmas' EmptyTue Dec 13, 2011 4:34 pm

What's your take on this? My mother thinks it's offensive, I don't really get why, I guess because it shortens it or something...but I was reading that where Greeks are concerned this is just as respectful as 'Christmas' is here because in Greece Christ's name is spelled 'Xristos' or something similar to it. I don't have a problem with it, I don't mind seeing it on a few decorations and cards and signs, but I'm more familiar with the traditional spelling of it.

^^Supernova--here's a very good explanation of what you question:

http://www.elijahlist.com/words/display_word.html?ID=10488

That webpage is a place I read daily, where people of faith, pastors, rabbis, etc., write in and post their teachings, experiences, sermons and observations on the world, from a Christian standpoint. Hope that helps!

My mother used to advise against spelling it that way. I don't usually, although it's quicker to write/type out.

I just thought it was the quick & lazy way of spelling it. Never saw it as something bad or offensive.
