| Like if you're close to the store or the post office or something, do you walk there instead of driving?
I don't get what my family has against walking but all our lives, as kids we rode our bikes which is not unusual, but as we got older, it was either have someone drive you down, or once you got old enough to drive, just drive down there yourself.
We're a few blocks from the grocery store, movie theater, newspaper, post office, etc. but the whole family is appalled at walking for some reason, I'm the only one who doesn't mind it. I like to get the exercise and I like being able to take in the fresh air and getting a slower view of everything. That's one thing I think can be attributed to my grandmother's longevity and good health, my mother's always said she always drank milk and she always walked everywhere.
My brother seems to have it in his head if you (me) walk anywhere, somebody will try to grab you up and you'll be kidnapped and murdered, etc. That's one thing I find funny, as kids for all the times we were told this is a safe little town, nothing bad happens here like in big cities, we were still never supposed to go off by ourselves unless we were together.
But I digress, how about everyone else?

| Actually, unless it's too far to walk or I have to do a lot of shopping, I just go walking instead. | |

| Not if I can avoid it. That handicapped card in the car windshield is there for a reason. | |

| I do not drive, so I walk a lot and use mass transit. And I do have my own private taxi (husband). But all the walking I've always done is probably why I didn't have a heart attack when I should have.
I am, however, mindful of what's around me, and will not walk in dark unlit areas unless I absolutely must.

Everybody was mad at me last night, I went to see Hugo at the theater, the 4:15 showing, it let out at 6:30, pitch dark at that time, and instead of calling, I had my brother's phone, I walked home, but it only took about 7 minutes. But downtown is lit up like a Christmas tree every night, it's only back in civilian territory the lights are out. For some odd reason most houses are dark very early around here.

| I don't have a car and bike everywhere I go, sometimes 10 mile trips downtown Miami, but mostly just 5 miles to the Cinema. In the neighborhood I bike to the stores, but if there isn't much to carry (like a newspaper) I jog to the newstand about a mile roundtrip. | |

| For th most part, I do. Doesn't make sense to drive and possibly lose my parking spot just to go around the corner. The supermarket is right down the street from me and I only drive there if I know I'm going to be buying a lot if groceries. | |

| Most of the time, nope. There's no point in walking when you have a car. | |

| In the summer, I will occasionally walk to the gas station to buy a snack or something like that. During the fall/winter, no. | |

| I walk when I go to places near. Growing up in Chicago, I had a Mom without a license, so we walked everywhere or took the bus, so walking is natural to me. Everytime I meet someone at the sports bar over here for dinner and I walk, people are so taken by that. Around here, everybody drives everywhere. | |
