Eat Pray Love

The new Julia Roberts movie, coming in August, looks really great. Based on a true story and is a chick flick, but looks decent.

Saw it last night. Wished I had waited for the DVD. It wasn't terrible, but it was long and the previews made it seem so much more in depth. But I did not dislike it so much that I don't want to read the book it was based on.

I saw it and was disappointed. Imo, it was too long and I felt no empathy for Liz. She came off for me as a spoiled rich woman who had way too much time on her hands. It was all about her. There were some good moments but not enough to justify it.

Was she rich? I thought that she probably lost most during the divorce if it is true that she let him have everything.

However, I think she did earn money by doing articles during her journey, which the movie did not mention. I would love to know if the book confirms that or not.

Than ks for the heads-up. I'll wait for this one to come out on DVD. I find that the books are usually better than the movies, anyway.

I thought she was rich at the start, I don't know if her husband took any money when he signed the divorce papers. I think to make the movie work, one had to care about her, and she came off selfish and spoiled to me. I don't know about doing articles, she seemed to want to get away from that, but that was just my impression.

prior to seeing the movie, I read that many thought she was selfish. I honestly never got that from her. The husband was so wishy washy and seemed like he was not at all ready to settle down into any one career. Remember in the beginning when he said he had switched jobs, while talking at that party?

I guess I did not get the whole "spoiled" vibe either. I would imagine that any person in their 30's, without children, who can pick up like that is in essence "spoiled" compared to my life, but I think she had the means to do it, so more power to her.

Okay, I just read she did get a hefty publisher's advance before setting off on her journey of self discovery so I guess it was kind of a job. I thought she was selfish because she did not seem to consider anyone's feelings but her own, but as I said that was just my impression

Ahhh...so my speculation was correct! The movie really does not allude to her getting so much as clearance to write an article(s), but I suspected as much. Much more telling is that she got an advance! Shit, I could try that out!
