I pair the socks but everything else is just tossed in.

I fold my socks after I pair them. They are all white crew socks but subtle differences and age differences.
I fold my Hanes tighty-whities because I want them smooth and not wrinkled. Plus it's easier to stack them in the drawer.
My sister still rolls the socks together so they can be thrown into a drawer like our mom did, but I think that stretches the elastic in them. I prefer folding them together.
