were ur parents affectionate?

I can honestly say that i have been hugged by more strangers than by my own mother.

once i was in the hospital and she brought up all sorts of cakes and cookies for the other patients and staff. When leaving she hugged me and seemed to scream "I love you"--- something that she has never said to me before or since. Then she said "had to make it sound good for the nurses"--- as if she knew she was supposed to say "i love you" and be affectionate, but she doesnt want to. It was just a show.

How affectionate were your parents... are you the same way with your kids?

Actually, the bigger problem was 'me'. I was one of those children who hated being hugged or fussed over. My mother was not affectionate but I think that's largely because I wasn't. My dad was more openly affectionate, and I would go up to hug him and sit on his lap a lot more readily. I'm sure it had to hurt my mother, and I can't explain any of it.

My mom's alright, my dad, when I was little he would kiss me goodnight, I think that was about it.

They didn't coddle us in this regard, but they do alright.

Eh, they were alright I guess. My mother was/is less affectionate than my dad. We were never big on that sappy shit in my house.

Not at all. This is why I overcompensate with my kids.
