Shale Stone was a character in a 1984 story I wrote about these two high school buddies, Bert & Shale writing letters to each other as young men.
When I needed a screen name for the Internet that would not show up on search engines as 'Bert' I chose Shale. He was used for all the randy things that 'Bert' does but doesn't want his family or IRL friends to find.
I took my username from one of my all time favorite songs from a band who was popular on the alternative music/college scene back in the 1980's. "Hyacinth Girl" by the now dis-banded Winter hours:
Incidentally, about 6 months ago, I became Facebook-Friends with Michael Carlucci, guitarist and creative force behind Winter Hours. He sent me some of his old Winter Hours music that is now out of print, and we occasionally chat back and forth by email or FB messaging. Kind of a neat thing!
But even neater, is that the current band that Michael is in now, is made up of a couple of members from a different '80's college band, who were all friends with my own best friend, Julie, back in those days. I was able to reconnect with Julie after many years, and she still keeps in touch with all the guys in the other old band, who are now in the new band, so now we're all on Facebook in all our friends lists!
