One thing that was mentioned in a list of technology pieces that aren't used anymore and are obsolete (yeah right) is tube TVs, the boxed kind we all grew up with. Well, not true for us, the living room has the same tube TV we've had for 20 years, I have a tube TV, my dad has one, my brother's the only one who got a flat screen. How about everyone else?

Re: TV: flat screen or tube?
What they mean by obsolete is they aren't being sold in the stores any more (except thrift stores who seem to have an abundance of them)
Like someone's '57 Chevy is obsolete, despite the pristine looking ones that you still see occasionally on the road.
I have a perfectly working RCA 19" digital tube TV sitting under an empty desk that I am about to donate. It replaced my decades old analog color TV (with a dial) that finally quit. I just replaced it with a 32" flat screen. Seems a shame to discard something that may continue for more decades, but I wanted more pic than the tube could deliver.
I guess our original Zenith console B&W TV with vacuum tubes is finally obsolete, or can you still get replacement tubes? It got handed down for years in the '60s replaced by the larger screen console color TV, then portable color TV's with the same size screen.
Just gotta go with the changes in technology.

I like flat screens better, but I'm into electronics. I still keep my handy 13 inch tube. Never know when I might need it.

It's not uppity, it's the truth. They don't even broadcast in analog anymore. I kept my old 27 in Zenith TV for sentimental reasons because I had it since I was 13....but it was definitely time to upgrade. It worked fine when I did get rid of it, but the color, picture, contrast...everything is just ten times better on a HDTV.

The screen on my TV is flat, but it isn't a thin console. The set itself is as fat as the standard tubes are.

I meant to elaborate on this. SN was prob. thinking of HDTV's when she said flat screens.....but yeah, there are tube TV's that have a flat screen but it's still an analog tv. HDTV's are still better.

Very similar to my TV, except the casing is black and it's made by RCA; but it's a flat screen. I really want a sixty inch flat screen.
