How would you react if you were in a restaurant and a child at a nearby table is being loud enough to distract your private convo with your dining mate or is actually running around you? You already complained to your waiter but they aren't doing anything about it. What would you do?

If the waiter wasn't addressing the issue, I'd ask to speak to the manager.

And not beyond making a scene to draw other customer's attention to the problem.

First tell the parents to shut their kid up, and then complain to the manager.

Let 'em run by me. They might wind up tripped.

I actually did this once.
And my experiences with this problem were ALL in Mexican restaurants.

Re: Unruly Child at a Restaurant
We had that problem once, we moved to a table on the other side of the restaurant. The pregnant waitress understood entirely, said "no child of mine is ever going to bark". However I also know that one should never say "No child of mine is ever going to do that" since the child won't do exactly that but something worse. I said "No child of mine is ever going to climb on the table and eat the sugar" when a cousins kid did. So mine didn't, she painted the furniture with a quarter pound of butter while I was just outside the door hanging up clothes to dry. I knew darned good and well that if she was quiet she was being bad.

Re: Unruly Child at a Restaurant
you guys are funny.... dont you remember the old lady thread who got hit for speaking up at chuck e cheese?
I was with a gf at a game once and this little brat was climbing up and down the bleachers. My friends went over to the boy and yelled at him. She screamed loudly into the crowd, "Who owns this boy??? Where is the horrible parent that is letting him run around" no one fessed up until she pointed in his face and told him to sit his butt down and shut up. Finally this woman walked up and admitted she was the mother. I swear if she would have said one nasty word, my friend would have given her a beatdown.
