IDK. Perhaps better educated or would it be differently educated.
My dad did carpentry and he could 'cipher' board-feet in his head to figure how much lumber to buy. I need a calculator for the simplest math.
My mom dropped out of school at 14, but got a GED around the time that I graduated. I, however know so much more of the world than she does - because it is my interest and she never got involved. Again, an accumulation of knowledge but does that make one smarter?

yeah... my map can't read a map... and talks like "you remember the guy with the movie where they did that thing"... then will say "you know the one with Tom Gibson"
Uh, mom... do you mean Tom Cruise or Mel Gibson? "oh yeah him"
Then there are the movies that are just too involved for her to follow. We can watch a movie together and she misses the entire story all together... i have to go back and explain everything to her. But then she tells me she like the movie the other way better--- the way she THOUGHT it was! And no she doesnt have dementia yet thank god... hate to see what that is going to be like! lol

Not necessarily. They were Old World farm people from the Old Country (Europeans) with very simplistic values. However, Mom was extremely sharp and intuitive, and it was difficult for people to pull the wool over her eyes. She was more of the 'business head' in the family. And, of course, they had typical skills that have been going by way of the dinosaurs.
They also travelled to and from Europe by ship several times. They never flew.
I've been outside the box more than they were. But I certainly don't think I am smarter than they were.
