    Question Turning down a promotion

Post by RobbieFTW Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:24 am

Somebody I work with was offered a promotion to sales manager but turned it down cause it meant having to have a more flexible schedule. I would give my teeth (not really) to be a sales manager cause they are SALARIED employees and get better insurance and perks. Have you ever said no to a promotion?

There are also down sides to being management. Salaried means you can be called in to cover at no extra pay. Plus the added responsibility. When things go wrong you're it. Some ppl avoid rising to the level of their incompetence and are content with just doing the daily grind, then clocking out and going home.

Yeah, I used to be lower management and salaried (sometimes spelled 'slavery')

Yea, I'd seen how management treated these supervisors, and the time I was there seen 4 people come and go in that position. To me, the added pay just wasn't worth it.

Yeah, I have. You have to do what's best for you. Sometimes all that added headache isn't worth it.

There is a lot of responsibility in having a leadership position and you have a lot more to answer for/to. You really have to be in a comfortable head space and have your life organized in such a way that would allow the job to take advanced significance.
