That's setting myself up to be played, so no. The concept of being "close" friends with an ex is a naive one.

I don't know, I have seen situations like that and its not too healthy. I say approach with caution.

I would have a serious problem with it. They are supposed to be an "ex" for a reason. It would bother me.

I would tread lightly for sure. Especially if they don't have a social group in common and rather go out of their way to stay connected.

Maybe I am of a generational paradigm that is alien here (and I never really dated) but I would have a relationship with someone who was still close to their ex. It can work with respect for each other and communication as to what your relationship is about.
Some ppl have a problem with keeping mementos from former partners but I have them in my foto album, pics and letters from my first GF, pics of me and Jim and now me and Brenda. None of them are a concern, but their relationship with me is part of my history and any new partner will accept that. (or not)

I think it just depends on the nature of the friendship. Having a romantic relationship with someone doesn't mean there will always be a sexual component. Sometimes people get together & realize it just wasn't "meant to be". But they can remain even very close friends without sex or drama. Doesn't work like that every time of course. But it's really a case by case thing I think. I wouldn't rule it out just based on that. The best thing to do is give it a chance & see how it goes.
