A couple years ago some people wanted to make cough syrup prescription only because they found out teens drink it (at 10% alcohol) to get drunk. And that is just STUPID, read the alcohol content on a mouthwash bottle, you going to try and make mouthwash prescription only too? Prohibition didn't work and neither does putting more restrictions on anything with a drop of alcohol in it, kids want it, they'll get it.

But I digress, if the plan had gone into effect, that means we would've been paying $80 for the prescription to buy a $6 bottle of cough syrup. And I said from the start, if that happened we would not pay that much for a bottle of Vicks44, for that price we'd just cough on people.

I had to pay $75.00 once for a prescription bottle of cough syrup because there was no generic form of it. I had no choice I needed it for a very bad cough and congestion I had so I paid for it.

Tony, yours probably had codeine in it, right?

I think she's talking about the over-the-counter stuff becoming prescription (right, Nova?). In that case, NO, I would not pay $80 for one of those. And there's no need to. They can do what Oregon did with certain allergy medicines ~ keep them behind grasp at the pharmacist section.

Yeah I'm talking about we get Vicks44, bottom shelf in the medicine section in the grocery store, $7.50 a bottle, no questions asked. To make that stuff prescription only, is idiotic.

Yeah it did have codeine. Yep she was talking about over the counter stuff I didn't address that part in my response. I would not pay either if it came down to that, they can and should keep them behind the pharmacy counter as you said.

I wouldn't pay that much for a cough syrup, but I pay more than that in co-pays for my daughter's meds; the Keppra-XR costs me $100/month out of pocket, and the lamotrigine is $16/month on top of that. If the generic Keppra worked, it would be far less expensive, but it doesn't and we have to use the "gold" standard.

I can't even claim that all on taxes, because of the calculation and percentages they use--I fall short of reaching the cutoff, despite the 2-3 grand I spend annually on prescriptions, office visit copays and tolls out to Boston.
