Which side of your family are you closer to and why?

My Dad's side, my Mom's side they are all weird.

My mother's. My father's side are a bunch of typical hoodrats, who always thought I was odd because I didn't act like the rest of them.

I'm closer to my dad's side. My mom's side is dysfunctional, pretentious and a bit racist.

Neither, really, but Dad's for sure if I had to choose.
We lived in the Midwest and Mom's family is from Alabama, so we did not see them a lot. My mom's dad was very prejudiced, and he never liked that I was "dark" and looked Mexican. I am not Mexican, though there is nothing wrong with that. It is just that my Dad's side had darker completions, and I guess that was enough for my maternal grandfather to not want me around. (When he died, he left every grandchild ten grand and me a hundred dollars. My maternal grandmother did influence him to drive to Chicago to see me when I was born. But he said he wanted nothing to do with a spic looking baby. What hurts worse is to read the will that says what each meaningful item he left all my cousins, and my name just reads the hundred dollars. No special items, like all the other cousins) Pretty shitty. He and Mom's mom died when I was young, but Dad's parents died when I was one. So I have no clue what it is like to talk to a grandparent.

So, I am closer to Dad's side, as they were always closer logistically. But, my dad was the youngest of nine, and my parents had me late in life (didn't want kids, the condom broke) so I literally have second cousins who are old enough to be my parents.

So, I am not close to anyone that is related to me other than my son. And my dad. Mom is gone.

I just proof read this post, and I don't mean it to be a sob story! I have excellent friends, probably better than the average person, so I am not lacking!

Eh, I'm not really close. close to either side like that. I just know them. It would be about the same, but if I had to say which side I don't really care for the most, it would be my dad's. The folks on my mother's side of the family are some comedians though. Esp my mother's younger sister, my aunt Barbara.

I'm very much closer to my mom's side, after my ma and dad divorced, I hardly seen any of my dad's family. I was sorta close to a cousin from my dad's side growing up, but we lost touch when I entered high school, I honestly haven't seen her since then (or any part of my dad's of family) which was about '95.

I'm way closer to my in-laws than anyone on my side withe the exception of my father and brother.

My moms. I'm not close to my dad and that influenced my interaction with his family. Plus most of my dads family isnt in the US so I dont see them anyway.

I guess it's my Mom's side, hands-down; I never knew my biological father, so that eliminates that whole side right there, and most of my step-Dad's family all live in Florida and I haven't seen them in about 30 years.
