    By 'thoroughly,' I mean with some type of cleaner, not just wiping the dust off.

    I bought a laser mouse just because I got tired of cleaning the navel lint out of that little ball chamber that caused the lag in my cursor. Keyboard works just fine with the dust and grime that collects on the parts I don't touch. So, guess the short answser is NEVER.

    I try to keep it as clean as I can, I keep alcohol pads next to the computer and wipe down the keyboard and mouse and the desk too about once a week.
