Do you bother to go and view the body before the actual funeral?

Re: Funeral Home Viewings
Yep. Especially if I'm not able to attend the funeral, I'll definitely go to the wake.

Re: Funeral Home Viewings
I've probably been to more wakes than funerals.

Re: Funeral Home Viewings
When my ex-partner Jim died in New Orleans, some close friends and his current partner had a traditional wake, with him propped in a chair and stayed with him all night telling Jim stories.

Re: Funeral Home Viewings
I usually attend the wake rather than go to the funeral. I can't even count how many wakes I have been to.

I have been to a few viewings and wakes in situations in which I can't attend the funerals.

Re: Funeral Home Viewings
Only once. I have never attended a wake, but have attended many funerals. So we have paid for our cremations, there will be no funeral and only 2 people besides the remaining spouse will be allowed to view the bodies. The ashes will be given to our son in a plain pine box to dispose of anyway he wishes.

I plan to be cremated also - no fanfare or viewing.Suzi wrote:...The ashes will be given to our son in a plain pine box to dispose of anyway he wishes.
Told my daughter to either illegally throw my ashes where her mothers were thrown, (in a local butterfly garden) or throw them into the ocean. Even told her that she can flush them down the toilet - they will eventually get to the ocean.

I will normally attend a wake and skip the funeral.
