Either a lover, a friend or a family member; has your heart ever grown cold to someone to the point where you felt you no longer loved them?

I have separated from two long-term companions and one 6-month companion, but I still loved them - just couldn't live with them as companion.

You've all heard the old bit about "Absence make the heart grow fonder" but my beloved grandmother added her bit and it applies to anyone friend or family "fonder for the other fellow". Gramma has been gone a long time, but she is of course always with me so love for her remains.

I think if you genuinely love someone it really is unconditional. That doesn't mean you excuse or dismiss some of the things they may do. It hasn't been my personal experience for love to have an on/off button. This is why I understand when someone is arrested even for a heinous crime, the parent, spouse or child of that person says they still love them.
I think one of the problems is the overuse of the word "love". Just because we're related to someone through blood or marriage or even that we've known someone a long time means we actually love them. Sometimes it just means we're really fond of them lol. I think the word "love" just gets tossed around too easily.

Actually I have. The first woman I was engaged to. We had the wedding planned, everything set and arranged for a fall wedding. She then tells me she is pregnant and all seems well. Then 3 weeks later, she doesn't come home until 4:00 am and the next day I pull up and find her sitting in a car in the driveway with her old flame at 3:00 A.M
When I asked why she was in the car, she said because he refused to come into the house out of fear I would come home and find him inside...
I saw her like 8 years later and couldn't even look at her I felt so sick...
