Have you ever stood up to say something at a person's memorial service?

I have not. I would be too shy for that but need to remember families do love to hear personal stories about their passed loved ones.

A couple people did at Mom's and I thought it was very nice. Mom was kinda/sorta known for her ability with numbers. She could hear a phone number one time and recall it. So, people would call her about numbers. One older lady who is very meek and quiet stood up and said, "I love Frannie for all the numbers she gave me." It was such a simple thing, but so fitting because I bet about 30 percent of those in the church had called Mom for a number at one time.

The best was the esteemed town Chairman...he is a member of the Baptist church the service was at, so his delivery was totally unexpected. He said something about the past November when he delivered a frozen turkey to the house (Dad works for the town as a little job in his retirement so he gets a turkey at Thanksgiving) and Mom told him she couldn't thaw the turkey in bed with Dad because he was too cold in bed. Yeah, she had a dirty streak! The fact he shared that in his church was too cool...and afforded Mom one last chance to embarrass us with her sometimes inappropriate humor!

I said very few words at my wife's memorial service. IDK what I said, but the piece I was supposed to read got unread because I was too choked up.
