At what age should a kid have their own laptop?

What is a good age for a minor to have their own laptop?

I think that's more a matter of the kid in question than their age because a lot of kids don't have laptops and do just fine without them.

When I was a kid ...

I built a crystal radio receiver
Built model airplanes
Assembled a 'Visible Man" & "Woman"
Had a Thinking Man Skull
Had chemistry set and a microscope

If I had a kid like myself he'd get a laptop real early (or at least priming on a tower PC). I remember in the early 90s we got my grandson an electronic toy that opened like a laptop and had buttons to push to match things up.

With all the perverts trolling the internet I'd say 18.

I dunno. Depends on the kid. Mid-teens is a good place to start.

Maybe around fourteen or fifteen. To me, it's more a matter if they can take care of/maintain a laptop. Thirteen years old and under seems liable to be callous with one.

Wait, do you just mean laptops, because kids can still use regular computers like family shared ones or computers at the library. The library in the next town over has a few computers in different rooms where you can do whatever you want without even being a citizen of the town. So if kids are gonna be exposed to the internet anyways, it really doesn't matter if they have a laptop or not.
(Maybe this library should stop letting people take so much advantage of it. I just returned a book that was due in December, they sent me an email saying they didn't believe in fining people.)
