I say a special prayer every year for the people that lost their lives that night.
Titanic's 100th anniversary to be commemorated Saturday
Saturday will mark the 100th anniversary of the fateful day the Titanic sideswiped an iceberg in the frigid north Atlantic on its maiden voyage.
The collision south of the Grand Banks occurred the night of April 14, 1912, and during the early morning hours, the great ship succumbed to the wound in her side and sank.
More than 1,500 people died that moonless night, and more than 100 of them lie buried in Halifax.
Organizers of commemorative events have been working for months to market halifax as a tourism destination while upholding the solemnity of the occasion.
Kyla Friel, a spokeswoman for the provincial government, said she believes they've struck the right balance.
Nova Scotia has been working with the Titanic 100 Society to plan events, including a memorial service, candlelight procession, public seminars, film festivals and musical performances to mark the centennial.
