Does it matter if they're alive now or not?
If so, P!nk, if not, Lisa Lopes.

One I shouldn't have to name.
Whitney, takes a lot of courage to get clean from drugs, and not easy staying clean. I admire her strength to quit and keep fighting. If she were still alive, I'd still be behind to overcome her relapses, cause they can and do happen.

You know Cheaps her death still doesn't sit right with me, she should never have died, something could have been done to save her. I was watching her "One Moment In Time" video on youtube before and I still get all choked up just knowing she died a senseless death and what a great lady she was.

Don't really have one. Quite frankly, I don't admire many, if any, women.

Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders - for telling it like it is in the face of political correctness. She stuck to sound medical advice despite serving under (and being fired by) wishy washy slick Willy.
Oprah Winfrey for just doing it. Running up the celeb ladder and gaining a position of influence and using that influence mostly for good.
Whoopi Goldberg - because she is pretty much a black female version of me, also known to tell-it-like-it-is.

That's true, Whitney was the one who needed to do something. If she wanted to be clean bad enough, she could have done it. You can't help somebody who doesn't want the help.

well there are many women who should be recognized.... the women of the temperance movement who eventually played a major role in prohibition and the suffergettes who fought for the vote for women should be greatly admired. Both were living in victorican era where women were nothing and men ruled, and yet these women were able to fight to achieve their respective goals. They were the start of them feminist movement which give us women today many of the freedoms that our generation takes for granted.

Patti Smith is top on my list--very talented singer, artist, poet and writer, who's suffered a lot of loss in her life, taken a lot of crap, and has managed to stay afloat through it all. Very extraordinary woman, and I tip my hat to her!
