A Tennessee man was arrested last Friday after a store clerk using a method to check a newer $50 bill failed on a real older one, he used to pay for his items.
The Quik Mart convenience store clerk called police saying the man was trying to pass counterfeit bills after her counterfeit marker used on the bill showed it was not real.
Officer Brock Horner arrested Lorenzo Gaspar and took him to jail for the supposed counterfeit bill. “The front side of the bill was off center and it didn’t feel like a normal bill, it did look to be counterfeit,” officer Brock Horner said in his report.
However, a police evidence technician, Sgt. Bill Logue, told Officer Horner that the counterfeit marker won’t work on some of the older bills.
On sure of how to make sure the bill was counterfeit, the officers took the $50 bill to two separate banks and asked them to check it. The bill passed tests at both banks with the use of black lights and magnifying glasses, and the police were told it was real but just real old.
Gasper was then released from jail and issued an apology from the police station and Horner.
