How do you feel about people being able to do random background checks on you? Like say, someone you were dating or a neighbor. Do you think people should have the right to check out your (public) records....would you do this to someone?

If it is a public record then that is open to anyone. I sometimes Google names and once found a co-worker who had embezzled money and another co-workers mug shot. That was just Google.
Oh if ppl Google my name (actually Yahoo search gets more on me) they will find I am a nudist & gay activist. (Yeah, image search has a couple of nude pix show up as well). So, privacy seems to be a victim of the Internet techno age.

I can't stop them from checking me but I don't think I'd check them. Could it be a prudent thing to do in some cases? I guess but I'm not that distrustful yet.

because i am a federal employee, my name, salary, position, and work address is all a matter of public record. When i first found this out, i was a little put off by it, but such is life. However, I believe that if MY salary should be public record, then ALL the damn politicians should have to make their tax returns public. Why should me and Bill Clinton pay the same amount of taxes just because he writes off 2 different houses, a jet, public appearances, clothes for those appearances... etc etc!

Seems deceitful and isn't charming but if it's public domain, then so be it. Start sniffing around for more personal or privileged info. and we have a problem.

They can check all they want, I have nothing to hide. I would not waste my time unless I really suspected something foul about the person.
