How would you describe your childhood home (the actual house?) Would you want to live there today? If you still do, would you want to continue living there indefinitely?

Re: Your childhood home
Well....we lived in a three bedroom apt before my parents bought houses, so no....I wouldn't want to live in and apt indefinitely. It was an apt in a three family house. Cool spot. My mother painted my bedroom pink.

Re: Your childhood home
My brother and I were talking about this a few weeks ago. Since the old homestead isn't that far out of my way going home, I stopped by and took a few pictures. What a freaking dump it's turned into. It was a 2 story colonial with a one car garage. At some point, someone had the bright idea to build a second floor addition on top of it. Looks like shit. And areas of siding are damaged and have mold growing on it. Shame. Used to be a nice house.

Re: Your childhood home
The home for my first ten years was torn down in the '80s. It was a 19th Century era tenement in downtown St. Louis.
Then we moved to the 'burbs of St. Ann and this is the house for the rest of my childhood to age 19.

It really hasn't changed much since I lived there.

Holy cow! That looks almost like a replica of the house my husband grew up in in Eastern Oregon! And the name of the street started with an 'H', too.

Re: Your childhood home
I think a lot of these post-war homes went up with the same blueprints. My friend bought a house here in South Miami built in the same era and I noticed his bathroom was exactly the same tiles and fixtures as the one in St. Ann. It was probably mass produced housing for all the returning GIs to make all those babies in.Bluesmama wrote: Holy cow! Re: Your childhood home
My family always lived in apartments. The first was a three room apartment which five of us had so squeeze in due to the housing shortage after WWII. Yes, I am that old. I couldn't move back because the area became so blighted, the building which took up an entire city block was torn down.
Second was a nice three-flat I wouldn't mind living in again. Third was a seven room apartment in another large building I would live in today too. Fourth was another three-flat I was never crazy about but by then I was old enough to leave home.

Re: Your childhood home
It was OK. Had 4 bedrooms, but was only 1 level and looking back was too condensed. Wouldn't wanna live in that house again.

Re: Your childhood home
Growing up in it I thought it was okay, although I always hated the bathroom. Wouldn't want to live in it now.
If I was to move back onto the settlement I would want to demolish it and build my own. The house had very little storage, a poor heating system, a terrible bathroom, no insulation, and the foundation is shot today. To fix all that would put us in the poor house. Besides, I have no sentimental attachment to it.

Re: Your childhood home
i had two homes that i called home. My mom's house was VERY tiny 2.5 bedroom (no lie), with one bath... was soooo tiny for 5kids.
The other my sister bought when i was 10yrs old. And I bought it from her when i was 22yrs old!! That is the house that got destroyed this year by the flooding. Now my bro and i are looking for another home.. and we keep comparing them to our really nice home

Re: Your childhood home
Our home in Chicago was pretty awesome. I couldn't live there now as the neighborhood is too bad.
