Do you have a backyard fire pit?

Do you use a backyard fire pit like this or some other type?



This one is exactly like ours. One of these years, I hope to find a nicer one on clearance. I like the ones like this:

It's so fun to sit out by the fire. But then there is that awful fire smell. My neighbor's son and his wife were here for a fire a few weeks ago and they were flying out at like 5 in the morning. It was after ten at night when they left and they were not planning to shower. Can you imagine how much their hair must have smelled like bonfire on that plane? I hope they decided to shower.

I actually haven't been able to kick it with them when they've lit it up. The times they have, I've had to work. Hopefully we'll be able to soon though.

No, but I'd love to have one.

I do keep an old dome bbq'r just to burn accumulated old bills and sensitive materials, and the husband has suggested converting it into one of those pits. But it wouldn't look as cute.

Back when I was a capitalist home owner, wife and I had a 4 foot diameter hole in the back yard. We would burn all the scrap 2X4s and other wood we were ripping out of the house during our make over. I think we kept a continuous fire burning for 7 or 8 days.

Now we have a much smaller place and we do have a more civilized fire container. No 2X4s, just a few twigs for making S'mores.
